Saudi Arabia's Future Investment Initiative, previously scheduled for 26–29 October 2026, has been postponed until 2027 amid security concerns following Houthi attacks. Organisers have not announced a replacement date. The event is an important gathering for international investors and Saudi Arabia's economic diversification agenda. The Bank of Canada third-quarter Business Outlook Survey found sentiment had improved on average, but responses after the breakdown of Canada–US trade talks indicated weaker export and investment expectations and increased price pressures from tariffs and energy costs.
Canada's annual inflation rate reportedly rose to 3.1% in September, driven partly by accelerating gasoline prices. Higher energy costs added pressure to household budgets and raised concerns about persistent inflation. The figures could influence Bank of Canada interest rate expectations, while traders assess the potential impact on the Canadian dollar and government bond yields.
China kept its benchmark lending rates unchanged on 20 October, maintaining the one-year Loan Prime Rate (LPR) at 3.00% and the five-year rate at 3.50%, in line with market expectations. The decision signals policy stability as authorities balance economic growth, borrowing costs and property-sector challenges. Investors are monitoring future monetary easing measures and their potential impact on the yuan and Chinese markets.
The Financial Times reported on 19 October 2026 that the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority is examining allegations concerning Barclays’ treatment of total return swaps linked to illiquid private-credit loans. The complaint reportedly questions whether some exposures were classified in the trading book in a way that understated capital requirements. Reuters reported the Financial Times findings and said Barclays emphasised its regulatory responsibilities without commenting on its interactions with regulators. The allegations have not been established as violations.
Red Cat Holdings announced on 19 October 2026 that its Austrian subsidiary SMOT Acquisition GmbH intends to launch a voluntary cash tender offer for all shares of Steyr Motors at €39 per share. Steyr Motors said the offer represents a 28.9% premium to its 16 October Xetra closing price. The proposed offer is conditional, including a minimum acceptance threshold that would give Red Cat at least 50% plus one share. The companies have not announced a completed acquisition.
The European Commission has issued preliminary objections over information supplied by investment firm KKR during its acquisition of Telecom Italia's fixed-line network, Reuters reported on 19 October 2026. The regulator's concerns relate to whether information about long-term wholesale access agreements was incorrect or misleading. The 2024 acquisition had already been approved, and the present step is a new regulatory proceeding rather than a new transaction. The objections do not establish wrongdoing: KKR has an opportunity to respond. The development may matter for KKR, Italian telecom infrastructure investment and regulatory scrutiny of major acquisitions, but no specific share-price reaction has been independently verified for this package.
Australian investment manager Challenger Limited announced on 19 October 2026 that TAL Dai-ichi Life Australia had submitted a conditional, non-binding proposal to acquire the approximately 79.5% of Challenger shares it does not already own for A$11.80 per share. German defence group Rheinmetall announced on 19 October that it and Swiss shipping company MSC won the auction to acquire Romania’s Mangalia shipyard for approximately €138 million. Rheinmetall says the purchase is expected to be finalised within weeks. The partners plan to develop a dual-use facility for civilian and military shipbuilding. Rheinmetall expects the site to support construction of four vessels ordered by Romania, including two offshore patrol vessels and two diver-support vessels. The auction award is a new milestone beyond the companies’ earlier consideration of a takeover.
Swedish investment group EQT said it signed a binding scheme implementation deed to acquire Australian waste management group Cleanaway for A$3.095 in cash per share, subject to adjustments for dividends and distributions. EQT puts the enterprise value at about A$9.3 billion. Cleanaway’s board recommends the transaction in the absence of a superior proposal and subject to an independent expert’s assessment. Completion depends on shareholder, court and regulatory approvals, with implementation targeted by the end of March 2027. The definitive agreement is a new step beyond the previously disclosed non-binding approach.

The planned transaction represents a new UAE equity-market issuance; final offer pricing and the listing timetable remain subject to the offering process.

Kent did not announce a policy decision or commit to a rate change.
